The growing adoption of AR advertising lacks standardized measurement practices, which creates challenges such as fragmented data interpretation, inaccurate performance assessment, and limited cross-platform measurement.

To address these challenges and foster industry growth, IAB and MRC have collaborated to release their Augmented Reality (AR) Measurement Guidelines for public comment, with the goal of establishing clear and consistent definitions, and comprehensive measurement guidelines for ads within Augmented Reality campaigns that can be embraced by advertisers and publishers.

These guidelines have been developed by the IAB AR Advertising Measurement Guidelines Task Force, a joint effort between the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the Media Rating Council (MRC).

The Augmented Reality (AR) Measurement Guidelines are open for public comment for a 30-day period until March 9th, 2024. Please send any questions or comments to experience-center@iab.com.

As the digital economy becomes more privacy-by-design, IAB surveyed over 1,500 consumers to gain insights into their thoughts, preferences, and concerns regarding their personal data and digital advertising overall.​

With personal data being a key facet of the free and open, ad-supported internet, the research gauged to what extent consumers understand what is meant by personal data. It also explored how consumers enjoy and value the Internet, how they perceive the role of advertising, what their willingness is to pay for currently free online services, and what their preferences and concerns are when sharing their data.​

The IAB Diligence Platform, powered by SafeGuard Privacy, is a data privacy platform that will contain a set of standardized privacy diligence questions that are specially designed for participants in the digital advertising industry. For example, the Platform will include questions that are specifically drafted for a publisher’s diligence of a Supply-Side Platform (SSP); an advertisers diligence of a demand-side platform (DSP); an SSP’s diligence of a DSP (and vice versa); and everyone’s diligence of data providers.

On September 13, 2023, the IAB/MRC released the initial draft of the Retail Media Measurement Guidelines for public comment, engaging industry stakeholders to shape standards that resonate with their practical needs and aspirations.

The IAB Measurement, Addressability, Data Center worked with the IAB Retail Media Network Committee to release Quantifying Retail Media In-Store Success: Measurement & Innovation.

In the retail industry’s evolving landscape, the emergence of in-store opportunities within Retail Media Networks (RMNs) is a pivotal development. With most retail transactions still occurring physically, there is a growing recognition of the potential in bridging digital advertising with in-person shopping experiences. Retailers and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies are innovating in brick-and-mortar spaces to create a more engaging and interconnected shopping journey.

The focus is now on building pervasive, omnichannel experiences that merge digital advancements with the physical retail environment. Personalized advertising, utilizing technologies like digital signage, in-store analytics, and mobile marketing, is central to this approach. These tools aim to capture customer attention and foster engagement, making every in-store interaction both memorable and impactful.

IAB is launching a DOOH and In-Store Retail Media working group on February 7, with the objective of developing a playbook that will enable and educate retailers, agencies, and brands on the DOOH and In-Store opportunity in retail media from activation to measurement. The playbook will focus on the following areas:

  1. Balancing trade and media planning and strategy in-store.
  2. Defining measurement metrics and advanced modeling methodologies.
  3. Providing an in-depth view of technologies, use cases, and frameworks.
